The Fat, the Skinny, and Everything in between

When judging the quality of a book, we all know that the book cover does not count. It is the least important thing about the book. What's written inside of a book is the only thing that matters. As long as all the pages are there, who cares about the cover? Yet, many of us refuse use this same logic when relating to other people. This is never more apparent than when the subject of physical appearance becomes a topic of conversation.

As long as there has been society, there has been this ongoing battle of the sexes juxtaposed to the human need to procreate. This has created many sub battles for various different reasons. In the battle of the sexes, men and women fight for a balance of power - no one wants be subjugated. In the competition amongst each sex, a socio-biological process of natural selection occurs to prove who has the better looks and genes to benefit the continuation of the species.

All types of shapes and sizes have been highly desired at various point due to the physical conditions of the environments of its inhabitants. We try to survive. However, in trying to survive, we forget that we're all trying to survive. Socially, this creates lots of turmoil that, without mediation, has had disastrous effects on us as individuals as well as a community - locally, nationally, and globally.

From Anorexia to Morbid Obesity and Breast Enlargements to Breast Reductions, in our continued efforts to maintain individual dominance, superiority over others, we continue to perpetuate patterns of toxic behavior that eventually knocks at our doors with the intro of a put down.
The weapons of "You're too fat," You're too skinny," "You're too smart," "You're not smart enough," basically translates to, "you're too much whatever you are and it makes me feel insecure. In my mind, you being you highlights your awesomeness and as well as well what I perceive to be my own lackluster qualities. So, now, I have to make you go away one way or another."

We live in a society of neurotic, self-hating, self-conscious people as well as selfish, insecure people with over-inflated egos. We're destroying others and self-destructing at the same time. It is evident when suicide, physical, emotional, and substance abuse; depression, necessary plastic surgeries, and eating disorders occur. Such phenomenon has been occurring with much greater frequency.

There's no rule that says you must conform to anyone against your will. Therefore, the term "that's just the way it is," in that sense, is not a good enough excuse to lose your beliefs, values, and principles - yourself - to conformity when it comes the individual. Ultimately, you can't control what others do or how they feel. You can only control you. Will you make the decision to be you when it really counts or will you to conform how others wants you to be?

We turn on one another to get closer to one another. However, as humans, we are more intelligent than the biological need to prove dominance in one way or another. Yet, often, many of us forget this. We forget the fact that we all have short-comings - none of us are perfect. We all have mega-strengths in some areas and weaknesses in other areas. Most important, however,we are all able to contribute great things to world. Yet, the need to be better than others, rather than do our own best, limits our potential to grow together. Thus, we become a very diffuse, self-destructive people.

Some people say only the strong survives. Yet, no man is an island. What will happen to you when you destroy all those around you. What will happen on the day that you actually need someone to be there?

I made an Adult dress to wear in public!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have have made my first adult dress that I would wear in public!!!!!!! I bought McCall's Pattern M6O73 sizez 18W - 20W- 22W-24W about 3 weeks ago.

I used fabric bought from Wal-Mart 5 years ago. The finished product is beautiful!

From making this dress, I learned two new sewing skills! This dress has a V-Neckline on the back bodice and requires elastic to be sewn in at the shoulders and the waistband.

V-Neckline

I am still trying to perfect the V-Neckline. I am going to make this dress again until I make V-Neckline in the back bodice of the dress correctly.

Elastic

This dress requires that Elastic be sewn in at the shoulders for gathering. The instructions direct to pull the elastic as tight as one can as one sews in the elastic. With this being my first time having done this, I stretched the elastic from one end towards me which cause the fabric not to feed forth and the thread to bunch. After looking for videos on YouTube about sewing in elastic, I learned that you have to stretch both ends of the elastic so the fabric and elastic will feed through.


Adjustments

I increased the patttern sized by 2, because I wanted to make sure that the dress didn't fit exact. To increase the pattern size, I traced the pattern onto wax paper using a permanent marker. This work perfectly because the permanent marker was soft enough not to tear the wax paper and it didn't easily smear either. Next, I measure the width of each size increase on the pattern, then I added two more in those areas. The areas of the pattern that did not show the size increase, I copied exactly. When choosing this method, one has to remember to center things such as a waistband that need to be center should the size be increased.
